Waiting for migration

A warm, and strong, southerly wind today had me hoping that my usual visit to Fornebu and Maridalen would reveal some early spring migrants but it wasn’t to be. Instead it was the usual fare of calling Bearded Tits (from two different areas of the reedbed and maybe indicating two different groups) and a Great Grey Shrike sitting high. There is a lot of green grass showing now and melt water and a group of six Fieldfares (gråtrost) and a single Blackbird (svarttrost) feeding in one such area may have been newly arrived birds although there are enough of both species overwintering that they were just as likely a congregation of local birds making use of newly exposed feeding areas.
